Cannot save Business Objects Reports in PDF Format

Category: AdministrationIlyas @ 10:30 am

Scenario:

After implementing SSL (i.e. HTTPS) between the client machines and the Tomcat, you are not able to download any Business Objects report in PDF format using Internet Explorer when you are in MODIFY Mode. However, you may be able to download it in Excel. Or you may even be able to download the report in PDF or Excel format when you are in VIEW Mode. But when you try to save the report as PDF in Modify mode, you get the following error message:

IE Error SSL1

Solution:

This is a known issue between Microsoft and SSL and I don’t know why this didn’t get addressed by default.

I came across this issue when I was working with XIR3.1 SP4 on Tomcat 5.5 and Internet Explorer 8. However, I have not seen this issue with BI4.x. So, this solution applies to XIR3.1 with IE Browsers.

Steps:

     1.       On your local machine, go to START and search for REGEDIT.

     2.       Once you are in the Registry Editor, then navigate to the following location

                HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE –> SOFTWARE –> MICROSOFT –> WINDOWS –> CURRENT VERSION –> INTERNET SETTINGS

     3.       On the right hand side, right click and select NEW –> D WORD (32 bit) Value

Value Selection

     4.       Rename the new value to “BypassSSLNoCacheCheck” and open the entry and enter “1” in the value data.

                    DWORD Registry Value for SSL

     5.       Close your IE Browser and re-open it, navigate to a Business Objects report and try to save it in PDF.

     6.       Since this setting is not done on the Business Objects Servers, so it has to pushed to every machine Enterprise wide.

The below KB’s from SAP and Microsoft were helpful to get to this solution
